I took the eggbeater as a practical way for holding cotton balls. They get everywhere and it seems just about every container I get for mine is too big or too small.
I think the water wings as lampshade and tennis ball as ear protection are possibly dangerous, but I really like most of the others.
As to the complaint that these are impractical, there are a number of things that I buy that are new but which I can't use for the purpose I intended to buy them and I can't return them... latex gloves purchased in the wrong size, teabags that I can't stand once I've actually tasted the tea, and so on. I hate throwing stuff like that away even though it's still "good". Creative thinking like these suggestions is something I should do more of.
Personally, I thought the bicycle ones were the most useful. The "windscreen" flyswatter to protect from ingesting bugs. The scrubbing sponges to protect your bare feet on sharp bike pedals. The ruler reflector to keep cars at a safe sideways distance. Very good ideas!
And, I liked the idea of using panty elastic as a dainty & slightly naughty accent band, but since I'm a man, I'll probably twist an old "fruit of the loom" elastic waist band around my arm a few times for a rugged & powerful accent. *heh* :-)
A hell of a lot of this stuff I didn't get, but I really loved the CD greenhouse. And the cactus dummy. I added this blog to my blogroll just for the sheer damned inventiveness of this stuff. Even if it isn't their original idea.
All great, but what's the purpose of the cactus thing?!?! Anyway, this all looks like some weird solutions for total lefties. Get a job and buy new stuff!

having the credit listed would be a positive: otherwise, these made me think of the 'tests' that you guess the meaning of the squiggles / lines, when really the 'meaning' is subjective. thanks for the laughter and the 'hhmmm!' - )
There's a valid point to be made for crediting the original authors / artists. There is no valid point for rehashing the same complaint around a gazillion times (and was that not the complainers' problem with this post in the first place? Rehashing?).
A lot of blog posts do not present original material but collect, assemble and group existing material. This is very, very useful (comparable to the work of a librarian).
I liked a few of the ideas - the tea light picture holder and the "low headroom" playing card are just plain useful. Regarding the latex glove ... I've seen an advertising for proper condom use in which the mother uses a rubber to dispense salad dressing. As long as your Willy Wonka was not in either of them, I don't see much of a problem.
uhm... but all of these items are new? They just ruined new things instead of recycling!
I mean, would you really use a disgusting old rubber glove to pour oil? Would you want to put a PLASTIC floaty on a light bulb? But my very favorite is the creative use they came up with for old books and magazines... :/
The genius of this site is not the creative use of the old items - while clever to be sure, the beauty of this is the wonderful photography and punchline-style setup for each new item. Loved it! Bravo!
"Thats just retarded.. all of it. Who would use a goggle to lean on in a bus? Seriously..." Me, that's who. I sleep all the time on buses, trains, and even planes, with my head on the window. Somehow I manage to fall asleep but the vibrations seem to be magnified when you're head is on the window. If the goggle lenses have rubber on them, they might be a small thing I can pack in my pocket that makes the sleep on the commute better. The world's smallest pillow?
Anyway, I'm going to check my old goggle bin and see if they'll work.
I have to agree, a link or at least a name mention of who's work this is happens to be the common convention of ethics. It's not a big thing to ask for. Thanks to the person a few up who provided the proper link. (that being said, I've seen people make a lot of these things before the person who photographed them so...)
Complaining about blogs 'rehashing' other stuff is simply ignorant though. That is the very nature of blogs. It's part of what they were invented for. It's a person's collection of stuff they find 'cool'
In any event, thanks for the look at the Kentucky house of the future.
why would you wanna put a flyswater with dead fly bacteria in front of your mouth. THATS NAAASSTY, and the can candle thing is just waitin to cut off someones fingers.
I actually thing the goggle thing is genius. I hate it when I sleep on a bus and keep banging my head on the window. Some of these do need to be explained.
Awesome!
ReplyDeleteExcellent promotion of recycling, I believe this is from the Netherlands.
ReplyDeleteinnovative ideas.
ReplyDeleterecycling is much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI wish they'd explain what some of the stuff did.
ReplyDeleteMost of those items aren't even used. Cool ideas, though. Good job.
ReplyDeleteHow about crediting the original creators?
ReplyDeleteWhat's that thing with eggbeater filled with cottonballs for?
ReplyDeleteMost of these are impractical. I mean, are you really going to use an old, nasty latex glove to pour oil on your food?
ReplyDeleteI thought it would be more obvious, but the eggbeater + cottonballs = cottonball dispenser
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteWE want more!

crazy europeans... i love 'em.
ReplyDeleteshould be called, "Top 17 Most Creative Uses For Old Stuff...that I took off other people and did not mention their names because I'm a douchebag."
ReplyDeleteWHY WOULD YOU GIVE A BABY A CACTUS TO SUCK ON!?!?
ReplyDeletewhy is every blog a rehash of something else someone saw on the internet. make something or post nothing. CREDIT THE PEOPLE YOU "BORROW" CONTENT FROM
ReplyDeleteWait...so you put your tea bags in the toilet and then make more tea bags out of tissues and flowers?

ReplyDeleteThe cactus thing is weird.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't just buy new stuff? Some of this "creative use" is simply ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThis is the gayest, stupidest, most worthless bunch of crap I've come across in a long time...and what a waste of 2 minutes on my part.
ReplyDeleteWow! really enjoyed the recycling :)
ReplyDeletehaving the credit listed would be a positive: otherwise, these made me think of the 'tests' that you guess the meaning of the squiggles / lines, when really the 'meaning' is subjective.
ReplyDeletethanks for the laughter and the 'hhmmm!' - )

ReplyDelete"REALLY RETARTID AND STOOPID STUFF HERE.hoo iz going tuh put a flice swatter in frunt of they'z face. Freak."
ReplyDeleteHoping this is a trolling comment.
And, if you've ever rode on a motorcycle, you'd be tempted to use that fly swatter. :D

Wonderful blog.

Plastic floaties with a lightbulb = dangerous fire hazard. Nice.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteYou just committed plagiarism by copying a Swiss website without giving them credit. Good going, old chap!
